Set & Object

Between studios 1 & 2 you will find an open-air structure with a collection of scenographic items. This includes rehearsal boxes, tables, chairs, and other miscellaneous items.

  • Everyone in the department is welcome to use these items.

  • You must put them back when you are finished rehearsing with them. Please put back in the same place where possible and take time to stack the items neatly.

  • Do not store the items halfway under cover. This is to ensure you have left a clear path for access to the spaces, fire exits and so that the items do not get wet, if this is not possible, inform Joe.

  • If you need help moving any items or objects, please ask a member of the production staff to assist you. You are not permitted to store or leave any items in this space especially, props, costumes, and rubbish.

The Alleyway

Our prop store contains an eclectic mix of items, including homeware and period items. If you require a particular prop email Joe Fairweather Hole for advice.  Before taking props out, students need to fill the borrowing form with full name, contact (email or phone), programme and year group, date of borrowing and date of return. The form is on the board, on the entrance door of the store.

The prop store is locked, and a member of staff will need to open the door for you. Please ask Joe for access if he is on campus or another member of staff will be able to help. Any keys loaned MUST be returned to the tech office (through the media suite) or to a member of the tech team immediately after use to ensure other students use of the prop store.

Once the store is open, return the key immediately – you won’t need the key to lock the prop store. Make sure to pull the door closed behind you when you leave.

There is a limited amount of storage in the department for set, costume, and props. Ask the relevant production staff member where to store all the items. You will be given a form to attach to your set or prop items with your name or company name upon it. This is to ensure that no other company appropriates your production items.

Please return all props where you found them, this will help keep the store in some sort of order and make finding props easier for everyone. Reserved props can be stored on the table inside the store or in the prop workshop. They must be labelled with your production and contact information.

No props can be modified without prior consent from Joe.

The Props Store

TAP has a collection of furniture that students are permitted to borrow for their productions, including chairs, stools, tables and beds. To view or borrow furniture in the store, please arrange a viewing with Joe.

  • To reserve furniture, label the furniture you would like to borrow with the labels found in the Scenography workshops.

  • Let Joe know which items you plan to borrow via email. The objects can be moved to a suitable storage space nearer the time of the performance / assessment. Occasionally furniture items are shared between performers or companies during busy periods.

  • The furniture may not be altered in any way, for example repainting, without the approval of Joe. Furniture must be used respectfully, and staff should be notified of any damage.

  • Please discuss with Joe any furniture you intend to buy with a production’s budget so he can arrange with you its disposal or storage.

  • The furniture store keys can be accessed through the dressing room above studio 4.

  • Any borrowed furniture MUST be returned to the furniture store immediately after a production is complete. Please take time to return furniture in a sensible and safe manner, where you found it, to ensure storage is a safe and orderly space for everyone’s use.

THE FURNITURE STORE

You must wear shoes in the scenography workshops.

The scenography workshops are accessible with your Goldsmiths ID with a card swipe to the left of the door. If for any reason the workshop door is locked, please find a member of the production staff or security team to open it for you.

  • The shelves on the right and left of the space are for reserved props to be stored in. Please label your items / boxes with the labels provided.

  • Be considerate of space, this is a shared workshop.

  • Tidy equipment and materials away after yourself, including sweeping the floor and work benches. Broom and Dust Pan and Brush can be found in the Set Workshop.

  • Get in touch with Joe / Berthe if you want to discuss a specific project.
